Often, the main problem we face when adapting source based fencing into competitions is usually finding the correct technique to the correct situation. Happily, the Pseudo-Von Danzig and Ringeck manuscripts give us some great tools to simplify these decisions. From distance, we'll be looking at assaulting various guards with different masterstrikes. At the bind, we'll look at winding our sword to gain advantage. And from cross to cross, we'll decide between wrestling and cutting around.

Miro Lahtela is one of the most accomplished active HEMA competitors in the world, currently ranked 3rd globally in Mixed & Men's Steel Longsword with nearly 800 rated bouts in various weapons.

On the mat and in the classroom, he's known for clean mechanics and structured training. His fencing is deeply informed by the sources of early Lichtenauerian longsword tradition and pressure tested by top-tier competition around the globe.

During our time together, this seminar will cover:

1. Reading your opponent like Lichtenauer intended

Sometimes it feels like a difficult task to initiate an exchange with your opponent. Happily the the german longsword sources gives us a excellent tool to approach an opponent standing in any guard; The Vier Versetzen! In this workshop we learn to apply this principle and avoid the most common mistakes made with the mastercuts.

2. Up close and personal

The focus of this workshop is to give fencers tools to create a short distance zone of threat. Combining thumb grip actions with wrestling is good combo either with dealing against taller opponents or making sure your opponent thinks twice before rushing you.

3. Utilising your favourite move

In this workshop we indulgence on fencers favored actions and bulid them in to solid attack patterns that give confidence in tournaments.

4.Schielhaw

Schielhaw is my own favorite move, let me teach you how I do it.

5. Distance and desicions the Lichtenauer way.
