Fencing at School

"My girls have loved coming here. It's a fun, inclusive, and smart place to develop great skills in a lifetime sport. Start with a camp or a class; they'll love it."

JOHN ROBINSON

General Information:

Camp is offered at the Center for Blade Arts facilities for 3.5 hours per day for the week.  We have limited camps this year as we are working on our facility and programs to better serve you.

  • Olympic camp age group is ages 8-14

  • Introduction/beginner (youth) HEMA is ages 10-13

  • Beginner HEMA is ages 14+

  • Advanced HEMA camp is 14+

Unless otherwise indicated, our camps run from 10am - 2pm, with a break for lunch around noon.  As food is not provided, students generally bring their lunch, with some choosing to grab something for the day from the many options right by the club. (In that case, we simply as that you bring your selections to the club before we begin so you do not miss instruction. )

Fencers are paired up with students closest to their own age for the camps to help learn skills, and any Advanced camps are separated by weapon.

Camps run in June and July.  We provide early sign-up information in February.

Beginner Olympic Fencing Camps
We provide all equipment needed to fence in these camps. Our half-day sessions are designed to turn new fencers into experienced ones. Due to the concentrated nature of these camps, students are well-prepared to join our program and succeed!

We cover:

  • Rules and games of the sport

  • Introduction of foil, sabre and epee

  • Basic concepts of bladework and footwork

  • Attacking, countering and defending

  • Sportsmanship and teamwork skills

All new fencers are fencing by the end of the first day.  Fun games are used to teach strategy and awareness.

Required
Participants are required to wear dry sneakers, t-shirts, and long sweatpants or leggings.  Shorts and jeans are not allowed for safety. Again, all equipment is provided.

Early drop-off and late pick-up is available for an additional fee. Please email us if you would like to add this option or if you have further questions.
