Black and Blue Friday
What is it?
We are proud to host another year of Black and Blue Friday! This celebration of fencing supports charities in our broader community.
Starting at 9am at the Center for Blade Arts on November 29th, the HEMA community will have their open tournament. In addition, there will be coffee available from Sovereign Grounds, a display by the Oakeshott Institute, and a sales table from Arms & Armor. Open fencing will also be available from 9 am until noon.
We are asking for a donation of $25 to enter. Donations of $40 or more will receive a Town Hall Tap coupon. A Paul Bates original design t-shirt commemorating this year's event will be available for ordering during the event at CBA. (T-Shirt cost is $25, with the proceeds also going to Focus MN. Your friends will be jealous!)
Why do we give back?
Our robust fencing and HEMA community is one of the largest in the country. We're extraordinarily fortunate: we have the time, financial freedom, and physical health to pursue an esoteric, complex art. We've always felt that the freedoms we enjoy leave us with a responsibility to give back to the community that has nurtured us; Black and Blue Friday gives us all a great reason to come celebrate our community and give back to a charity that could use our support.
Who is our charity this year?
Focus Minnesota is a basic-needs assistance, grassroots neighborhood organization, providing great help to those at a critical juncture in their lives that requires a helping hand. Their stated mission is to assist the under-served poor, the homeless, and the working poor, providing them with Food, Occupation, Clothing, Shelter, and Understanding.
How can I give if I can’t attend?
Donations can be made at http://focusmn.weebly.com/. Please list the Center for Blade Arts in the company field; this will allow us the count your donation towards our goal. Naturally your donation is more important then our charity goal, so please donate even if we are not credited alongside your gift.
